National Apprenticeship Schemes: NAPS and NATS Explained
Apprenticeships help young people learn job skills while earning. In India, two important schemes exist: NAPS and NATS. Let’s understand what they are.
What is NAPS?
National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS) started in 2016. The government pays part of the apprentice’s stipend (salary) to encourage companies to hire trainees.
What is NATS?
National Apprenticeship Training Scheme (NATS) is for engineering and diploma students. It gives them 1-year training in companies after studies.
Who Runs These Schemes?
Both schemes are managed by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (Government of India) with help from:
- Directorate General of Training (DGT)
- Regional Directorates of Apprenticeship Training (RDATs)
- Industry partners
